Reprints and Permissions
Paper and Electronic Reprints
Bulk Orders. North America & International. Large quantities of archival-quality paper reprints are available only through Content Ed. To obtain a quotation, please contact Ray Thibodeau (215-933-8484).
Please indicate in your request the article title, volume/year, page numbers, and the quantities required. Written author permission may be required at the time of your order.
Please note that reprints of The Journal articles must be true to the original and may not be altered in any way. No additional printing may be set onto a reprint. This includes, but is not limited to, placement of sponsorship identifiers, disclaimers, trademarks, logos, rubber stamping or stickers, etc.
Small Quantities. Permission to distribute smaller quantities of reprints (up to 49 copies of a single article) may be processed online via The Journal of Rheumatology Co. Ltd. permissions page on Rightslink©.
Single PDF Copies. Single PDF copies of articles published since January 2001 can be purchased for US $20 from The Journal of Rheumatology Co. Ltd. website. Articles are for personal, non-commercial use only, and are not for distribution. To purchase an article, click on the article you wish to purchase. On the Quick Access menu on the righthand side of the page, click on “Add to Cart $20.” You must be logged in to be able to purchase your article.
Author PDF Copies. The lead/contact author of an article published online in The Journal of Rheumatology may distribute, on a one-time complimentary basis, up to 20 copies of the published PDF version for personal/professional, non-commercial use. If you do not have access to The Journal of Rheumatology as a subscriber or through your institution, please email subscriptions@jrheum.com to request your PDF copy. For larger quantities of author e-prints, authors should contact reprints@jrheum.com.
Permission Requests
Articles published before 2008. Journal material (including abstracts) may not be reproduced or adapted without prior express written permission from The Journal of Rheumatology Publishing Co. Ltd. and from the author(s).
Requests for permission should include the bibliographic details of the material requested:
- figure or table number,
- first author,
- title,
- year,
- volume, and
- page numbers of the article.
Requests should also indicate the proposed number of copies/views and the intended use of the material (promotional/commercial/sponsored).

Open Access Articles
Use by Commercial For-Profit Organizations. Use of Open Access articles for commercial, promotional, or marketing purposes requires further explicit permission from The Journal of Rheumatology Publishing Co. Ltd. and will be subject to a fee. Commercial purposes include:
- copying or downloading of articles, and/or linking to such articles for further redistribution, sale, or licensing
- copying, downloading, or posting by a site or service that incorporates advertising with such content
- inclusion or incorporation of article content in other works or services (normal quotations with an appropriate citation are excepted) that is then available for sale or licensing for a fee (for example, a compilation produced for marketing purposes, inclusion in a sales pack, etc.)
- linking to article content in emails redistributed for promotional, marketing, or educational purposes
- use for the purposes of monetary reward by means of sale, resale, license, loan, transfer, or other form of commercial exploitation such as marketing products.
Bulk paper reprints of Open Access articles are available for purchase (see above Bulk Orders).
Individual Noncommercial and Nonpromotional Use. For non-commercial and non-promotional purposes, individual users may access, download, copy, display, and redistribute to colleagues subject to authors' right of attribution and right of integrity.
Content in the article identified as belonging to a third party is subject to permission of the copyright holder of the original source of that content. If article content is copied, downloaded, or otherwise reused for non-commercial research and education purposes, a link to the appropriate bibliographic citation (authors, journal, article title, volume, issue, page numbers, DOI, and the link to the definitive published version on jrheum.org) should be maintained. Copyright notices and disclaimers must not be deleted.
Errors and Omissions
While the publisher and authors try to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and currency of all materials in The Journal of Rheumatology, they make no guarantees or warranties as to such currency, completeness, or accuracy, or the results to be obtained from accessing and using the materials. The publisher does not endorse any information, advice, or other material. The publisher and authors expressly disclaim all representations, warranties, and conditions either expressed or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. They accept no responsibility or liability for damages or losses relating to any errors in or omissions from any material or from the use or inability to use such material.
Press Embargo
There is an embargo on press/news releases until 24 hours after the first online publication of the source article. Full-length articles are published ahead of print in PDF format on the first available release date at midnight on either the 2nd or 16th of each month. Advanced notice of the exact date of First Release publication is not available.

Complimentary press copies are provided on written request to accredited journalists. Requests specifying article details (i.e., title/volume #/issue #/page #) should be emailed to: subscriptions@jrheum.com
