In addition to LDL, IDL possibly contributes to the atherosclerotic process [17,18,32]. BJ Meyer et al. demonstrated that two subpopulations of IDL, small IDL (cholesterol-rich IDL particles) and large IDL (TG-rich IDL particles), are markedly different in lipid composition and affinity for proteoglycans in the arterial wall [18].
