2021, Journal of CardiologyCitation Excerpt :However, there are diabetic patients whose heart displays impaired function and an abnormal structure even without coronary artery disease, hypertension, valve disease, or other precipitating factors for HF. Among patients with a history of myocardial infarction, HF is more prevalent in diabetic than nondiabetic patients, despite smaller infarct size [19]. These reports suggest that additional factors must be contributing to the myocardial dysfunction seen in DM patients.
