Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a large-vessel vasculitis that affects individuals over the age of 50 and predominantly women in their 70s.1 The estimated pooled incidence of GCA is approximately 10 per 100,000 persons aged 50 years or older, with a higher incidence of 20-25 per 100,000 seen in Scandinavian countries and other northern countries, including Canada.2-4
