Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD) is a crystal-induced arthropathy characterized by the deposition of calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystals in articular cartilage and soft tissues. It typically presents with acute monoarthritis involving large joints such as the knee or wrist, but it may also manifest as an oligoarticular or polyarticular disease. CPPD is associated with aging, osteoarthritis, and metabolic disorders such as hyperparathyroidism and hypomagnesemia.
